About the BSE 1000

BSE 1000 measures the performance of 1000 of the largest and most liquid Indian companies within BSE AllCap. It is weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization and maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.

How companies are chosen

The universe is the constituents of BSE AllCap that are members of the BSE 500 and BSE Next 500. A stock needs a listing history of at least six months at BSE (one month for IPOs and spin-offs) and must have traded for at least 80% of the trading days during the six-month reference period.

Eligible companies are ranked by 6-month average daily total market capitalization. The top 800 are selected whether or not they are current constituents, and existing constituents ranked 801 to 1200 are retained in order of rank until the count reaches 1000.

Differential voting rights shares (DVRs) can enter the index, which would lift the stock count above 1000, but the number of companies stays fixed at 1000.

How it is weighted

Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. Each company's available float is set by its investable weight factor, which is reviewed quarterly and implemented in Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.

When it is reviewed

The index is rebalanced semiannually, in Jun and Dec.

Base date and value

The index launched on 10 Feb 2025, and its first value date is 16 Sep 2005.
