About 52-week highs

52 week high stocks are shares that traded above their highest price of the past 52 weeks, about 250 trading days, in the latest session. The list shows each one with its closing price, its 52-week high, how far it sits above its 52-week low, its market cap and its one-year return.

Meaning

A 52-week high is the highest price a share has reached in the last 52 weeks. The window rolls forward each day, so older highs drop out.

How this list is built

A share is listed when it trades above its previous 52-week high at any point in the session, so its close can sit below the new high. The range is worked out once a day, after the session closes, and the list does not change during trading.

Prices are adjusted for splits and bonus issues, so a split that halves the price does not make earlier prices look twice as high. Each company is counted once, on its NSE prices where NSE lists it, otherwise on BSE.

Only companies worth ₹100 Cr or more in market cap are shown, largest first. Tabs split the list by size: ranked by average market cap over six months, the first 100 companies are large cap, the next 150 mid cap and the rest small cap, a ranking AMFI revises twice a year.

Columns

Above 52W low is the closing price minus the 52-week low, divided by the 52-week low, as a percentage. The 1Y return is the price change over the past year, and it shows a dash where a year of prices is not available.

Reading the list

A count of new 52-week highs is often read next to the count of new 52-week lows as a measure of how widely the market is moving. The page also shows how many shares rose and fell in each sector; the advance decline page gives the market-wide counts and the ratio.

A share on this list has traded at a price it had not reached in the past year. That is a fact about its price history and says nothing about what the price will do next.

What is a 52-week high?

The highest price a share has traded at in the last 52 weeks, about 250 trading days. A share makes a new one when it trades above that level. The prices are adjusted for splits and bonus issues, so a split does not read as a fall.

Why is the list only updated after the close?

The 52-week range is worked out once a day, after the session closes, so the list is of the latest full trading day and does not change while the market is open.

Does the list include BSE shares?

Yes. Every company listed on NSE or BSE is counted once, on its NSE prices where NSE lists it and on its BSE prices where only BSE does.

Which shares on the list are in the Nifty 50?

A share in the Nifty 50 or the Nifty Next 50 carries the index's name in its row, after its symbol and industry, from the index's latest list of companies. Each index's own page lists all its companies.

What are large, mid and small cap companies?

The classification every mutual fund uses: listed companies ranked by their average market cap over six months, the first 100 large cap, the next 150 mid cap and the rest small cap. The list is revised every January and July.
