About Indian Energy Exchange

Indian Energy Exchange Limited (IEX) runs a nationwide, automated trading platform for the physical delivery of electricity, renewable energy and certificates, including renewable energy certificates and energy saving certificates. The platform is approved and regulated by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission. The company has a registered office in New Delhi and a corporate office in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It was incorporated in 2007, and its shares are listed on NSE and BSE.

Trading is organised into market segments. The day-ahead market covers delivery for the next day. Term-ahead contracts run for periods of up to three months, and the real-time market trades half-hourly, with the real-time market in operation since June 2020. An intraday and day-ahead contingency market, a renewable energy certificates segment and an energy saving certificates segment complete the set. Energy saving certificates have been traded since September 2017. A green day-ahead market and green term-ahead contracts sit alongside the conventional products. IEX also runs IEX Academy, a learning platform for the power sector, launched in June 2023.

Beyond electricity, the company has built a group of energy exchanges. Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) was launched in 2020 and provides a platform for the physical delivery of natural gas. IEX holds a 47.28% stake in IGX. ICX Private Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary and an issuer of international renewable energy certificates, known as I-RECs. In 2026 the company incorporated Indian Coal Exchange Limited, also a wholly owned subsidiary, as a vehicle for a coal exchange.

Written from the annual report for the year to Mar 2026, filed 14 Aug 2026 and the investor presentation.
