About the BSE MidCap Select Index

The BSE MidCap Select Index is a rules-based index of the 30 largest, most liquid companies within the BSE MidCap. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.

How companies are chosen

The index draws its companies from the constituents of the BSE MidCap. Only common stocks with a listing history of at least six months are eligible, and the data is measured over the prior six months.

At each semi-annual rebalancing a company needs an average daily float-adjusted market capitalization of at least ₹2,000 crore, an annualized traded value of at least ₹1,000 crore and a turnover ratio of at least 20%. Current members stay eligible at ₹1,600 crore, ₹800 crore and 16%.

Annualized traded value is the median of the monthly medians of daily traded value over the observation period. The turnover ratio is that value divided by the average daily float-adjusted market capitalization.

A company must also have no more than five non-trading days in the past six months.

Eligible companies are ranked within their industry classification group by average daily float-adjusted market capitalization, and only the 10 largest in each group stay in the running. The top 20 of the rest are selected. Existing members ranked 21 to 40 then fill the places up to 30 companies.

How it is weighted

Members are weighted by their float-adjusted market capitalization.

When it is reviewed

The index is rebalanced every six months, effective at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar and Sep. The reference date is the third Friday of Feb and Aug. No companies are added between rebalancings, so the index can hold fewer than its full number of companies until the next rebalancing.

Base date and value

The index was launched on 15 Jun 2015, and its history starts from a first value date of 16 Sep 2005.
