About NMDC Steel

NMDC Steel Limited makes hot rolled steel coils, sheets and plates, which other industries process further, at an integrated steel plant (one that turns iron ore into finished steel on a single site) at Nagarnar in Bastar, Chhattisgarh.12 Its steel is used in infrastructure and construction, transport, energy including oil and gas, and engineering.3

It was incorporated on 2 January 2015 as a wholly owned subsidiary of NMDC Ltd, to build the steel plant at Nagarnar.4 NMDC Ltd's steel plant was then demerged (separated and transferred) into the company; the Ministry of Corporate Affairs approved the demerger on 6 October 2022 and it took effect on 13 October 2022.4 Commercial production of hot rolled coils began on 31 August 2023.5

The plant sits close to NMDC's Bailadila iron ore mines and is linked to the Visakhapatnam seaport by rail and road.5 The registered office is at the Nagarnar plant and the corporate office in Hyderabad; the company has no subsidiary, joint venture or associate company.67

NMDC Steel is a Government Company under the Ministry of Steel, with its shares listed on BSE, NSE and the Calcutta Stock Exchange; the President of India held 60.79% of its shares at the end of March 2026.58 By order of the Ministry of Steel, the chairman, functional directors and government nominee directors of NMDC Ltd also hold those posts on the company's board.9
