About Jaiprakash Power Ventures

Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited generates and sells electricity. It owns three power plants with a combined capacity of 2,220 MW, and also operates a cement grinding unit and a coal mine. It was incorporated in 1994. Its registered office is at the Jaypee Nigrie Super Thermal Power Plant complex in Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh.

The hydro plant, with 400 MW of capacity, is at Chamoli in Uttarakhand and has operated since October 2006. It has a power purchase agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. The Bina thermal plant in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, has 500 MW from two units of 250 MW each. The Nigrie plant in Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh, is a coal-based supercritical plant with 1,320 MW from two units of 660 MW each. Both thermal plants have long-term agreements to supply Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited, and the company sells part of its output through power exchanges.

The Jaypee Nigrie Cement Grinding Unit at Nigrie has an installed capacity of 2 million tonnes a year. The Amelia (North) coal mine in Singrauli district supplies coal to the Nigrie plant. After the year to March 2026 ended, the board decided to surrender this mine, and the process of surrender is under way.

Jaiprakash Associates Limited held 24% of the company until Adani Power Limited acquired that stake. Jaiprakash Associates entered insolvency proceedings in June 2024, and the tribunal approved a resolution plan submitted by Adani Enterprises Limited in March 2026. The company is now an associate of Adani Power.
