About SJVN

SJVN Limited generates electricity from hydro, solar, wind and thermal power stations across India and sells it mainly to electricity utilities owned by state governments.12 It also trades electricity, offers consultancy and is building hydroelectric projects in Nepal.34

SJVN is a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh, and a Navratna central public sector enterprise (a status that gives a government company's board more freedom to invest).5 It was incorporated on 24 May 1988, is based in Shimla, and its shares have been listed on NSE and BSE since 20 May 2010.67

Its own hydro stations are Nathpa Jhakri (1,500 MW) and Rampur (412 MW) in Himachal Pradesh and Naitwar Mori (60 MW) in Uttarakhand.4 Tariffs for Nathpa Jhakri and Rampur are set by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, Naitwar Mori's power is sold on power exchanges and through bilateral deals, and wind and solar power is sold under long-term power purchase agreements with state government entities.28 Renewable projects are run through the wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Limited, the coal-based Buxar thermal project in Bihar through SJVN Thermal Private Limited, and the Arun-3 and Lower Arun hydro projects in Nepal through subsidiaries incorporated there.94 SJVN holds 41.94% of Cross Border Power Transmission Company, a joint venture with Power Grid Corporation of India and Nepal Electricity Authority that runs the Indian portion of the Muzaffarpur to Dhalkebar line between India and Nepal.10
