About the gold rate

Gold rate today in India is the benchmark price of 24 carat gold per 10 grams, with the matching rates for 22, 18 and 14 carat and for 995 fine gold, and a daily table of the last year. It is a wholesale benchmark, so a jeweller's bill is higher.

How the rate is set

The rate comes from the bullion trade's association, which sets it from prices polled from dealers, refiners, importers and jewellers twice a working day, around noon and around 5 pm. The page shows the afternoon rate. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays no rate is set, so the last one stands until the next.

Carat and fineness

Carat measures purity on a scale of 24. Pure gold is 24 carat, 99.9% gold (999 fine). 22 carat is 91.6% gold, 18 carat 75% and 14 carat 58.5%, the rest being other metals that make the gold harder. 995 fine is gold bars of 99.5% purity. The lower-carat rates in the table are the 24 carat rate scaled by purity, and a dash means no rate was set for that column on that day.

What the rate leaves out

The benchmark includes import duty but excludes GST and making charges. GST on gold is 3%. Making charges are set by each jeweller and vary with design. India raised the total import duty on gold from 6% to 15% in 2026, which lifted the domestic base price.

Why India's rate differs from the world price

Gold trades worldwide in US dollars per troy ounce (about 31.1 grams). The Indian rate converts that price to rupees and 10 grams, then adds import duty and local trade premiums or discounts. It therefore moves with both the international gold price and the rupee-dollar rate.

Hallmarking

Gold jewellery sold in India carries a BIS hallmark that states its purity grade, which lets a buyer check it. The benchmark rate here is for pure gold and does not measure a piece's hallmark.

When does the gold rate change?

The benchmark is set twice on each working day, around noon and again in the afternoon, and this page shows the afternoon rate. On days none is set, such as Sundays and holidays, the last one stands until the next.

Why is a jeweller's price higher than this rate?

The rate is for gold of that purity before anything is added. A jeweller's price adds making charges, which differ by design and shop, and GST on the gold and on the making charges.
