About MMTC

MMTC Limited is a government-owned trading company based in New Delhi. It was incorporated in 1963. Its trading business covered the export of minerals and the import of precious metals, non-ferrous metals, fertilizers, agro products, coal and hydrocarbons, across countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and North America. Since April 2022 it has not traded, on the direction of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and it undertook no business activity in the year to March 2026.

The company now describes itself as almost non-operative. Its one operating activity is a 15 MW wind farm of 25 wind energy generators at Gajendragad in Karnataka, set up in March 2007. The power it generates is sold to Hubli Electricity Company Limited, a Government of Karnataka undertaking. On 31 March 2026 the company had 245 employees.

MMTC holds 26% of MMTC-PAMP India Private Limited, a joint venture with PAMP Ventures SA of Switzerland that operates a precious metals processing facility. It completed the divestment of its stake in NINL, a joint venture company, on 4 July 2022. Mica Trading Company Limited was merged into MMTC. Its Singapore subsidiary, MMTC Transnational Pte Ltd, is being wound up under an order of the High Court of Singapore, and a liquidator has taken control of it.

MMTC is a government company under the administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The President of India holds most of its shares and appoints all members of its board.

Return is price growth plus the average dividend yield. Change in P/E is (1 + price growth) / (1 + earnings growth) - 1, so the parts compound rather than add. Earnings growth and the change in P/E are left empty where earnings per share at either end of the window was a loss or is not on record. Earnings growth over 1 and 3 years includes one-off items (exceptional items and the result of businesses sold or closed) of more than a tenth of the profit of the years to Mar 2023, Mar 2025 and Mar 2026.
