About Balrampur Chini Mills
Balrampur Chini Mills Limited makes sugar and ethanol and co-generates power. It is based in Kolkata and was founded in 1975, when it began operating a single sugar unit at Balrampur. Its shares were first listed on the Calcutta Stock Exchange and are also listed on the BSE and the NSE.
The company runs 10 sugar mills in Eastern and Central Uttar Pradesh, with a combined crushing capacity of 80,000 tonnes of cane per day. The mills are at Balrampur, Babhnan, Tulsipur, Akbarpur, Gularia, Maizapur, Mankapur, Rauzagaon, Haidergarh and Kumbhi. It also operates 5 distilleries and 10 co-generation power plants. A poly lactic acid plant, for a bio-based plastic alternative, is under implementation. The company employed 5,985 people on 31 March 2026.
Its Babhnan mill came from a controlling interest in Babhnan Sugar Mills Limited, which was amalgamated into the company in 1994. It acquired a controlling stake in Tulsipur Sugar Company Limited, which was merged into it from April 1999. It took over an integrated sugar facility at Rauzagaon from Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd. The Maizapur mill came through Indo Gulf Industries Limited, whose sugar division was merged into the company; the company then divested its entire stake in that firm.
