About the BSE 250 MicroCap
The BSE 250 MicroCap is a broad index of 250 of the largest and most liquid companies within the BSE Next 500, maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the BSE Next 500, the companies in the BSE 1000 that are not part of the BSE 500. Companies are ranked by their average daily total market capitalisation (the value of all a company's shares) over six months. The top 200 are selected whether or not they are current members. Existing members ranked 201 to 300 are then added in order of rank until the count reaches 250. If the count is still short, non-members are added in order of rank.
A current member that no longer meets an addition criterion is not removed for that reason alone, only when ongoing conditions warrant a change. A company's differential voting rights (DVR) shares are eligible if its ordinary shares are in the universe and the DVRs pass the liquidity criteria.
How it is weighted
Members are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalisation: each company counts only the part of its shares available for trading, set by its investable weight factor. These factors are reviewed every quarter and applied from the Monday after the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. A change of five percentage points or more is made sooner, after the data is verified.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, in Jun and Dec. The reference date is the last trading day of Apr and Oct, and the new list takes effect at the open on the Monday after the third Friday of Jun and Dec.
Between reviews, a company is dropped for events such as a merger, delisting or suspension, and the most eligible non-member is added to keep the count. A large IPO that ranks among the top 30 on the index's ranking measure can be added early, after one month of listing and with five days' notice, and the smallest member is removed. Companies added to the graded surveillance measure list are dropped monthly.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 10 Feb 2025. Its values run from 16 Sep 2005, the base date, when it stood at 1000.
