About the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC Index
The BSE 100 LargeCap TMC Index measures the performance of the 100 largest and most liquid companies within the BSE 500, selected by total market capitalization, the value of all of a company's shares. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The index is drawn from the constituents of the BSE 500. A company needs no more than five non-trading days in the past six months, as of the rebalancing reference date, and an annualized traded value of at least ₹1,000 crore. Current members stay eligible at ₹800 crore. Annualized traded value is the median of the monthly medians of daily traded values over the six months, annualized on 250 trading days a year.
Eligible companies are ranked by average daily total market capitalization over the prior six months. The top 80 are included. Existing members ranked 81 to 120 are then added in order of rank until the count reaches 100, and if it is still short, non-members are added in order of rank.
Two derivative-market limits also apply. A share class of a company with no derivative contracts cannot exceed 5% of the index by float weight, and all such stocks together cannot exceed 10%. If either limit is breached, the lowest-ranked stock without derivatives is replaced by the next eligible stock that has them.
For a stock listed less than six months before the reference date, all data is measured from its listing date. Differential voting rights (DVR) shares can be included if the ordinary share class is in the BSE 500 and the DVRs pass the liquidity tests themselves. Their inclusion can take the index past 100 stocks, while the number of companies stays at 100.
How it is weighted
Members are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. Each company's investable weight factor, which sets the share of its shares available to trade, is reviewed quarterly and applied from the Monday following the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. A change of five percentage points or more is made as soon as reasonably possible after verification.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, in Jun and Dec, effective from the market open on the Monday following the third Friday of the month. The reference date for the data is the last trading day of Apr and Oct.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 9 Jul 2018, with a first value date of 16 Dec 2005 and a base value of 1000.
