About the Nifty500 Multicap 50:25:25

The Nifty500 Multicap 50:25:25 is an index of large, mid and small cap companies with the weight of each size segment fixed at 50%, 25% and 25%. It includes all companies in the Nifty 500 and is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.

How companies are chosen

The index had 501 companies on 30 Sep 2026. Between scheduled reviews, the index is reconstituted and rebalanced if a member leaves the Nifty 500, is suspended or delisted, or goes through a scheme of arrangement.

How it is weighted

The index gives 50% to large cap companies (the Nifty 100), 25% to mid cap companies (the Nifty Midcap 150) and 25% to small cap companies (the Nifty Smallcap 250) on quarterly rebalance dates. Within each segment, a stock's weight is based on its free float market capitalisation.

In the Nifty 500, each segment's weight follows the market capitalisation of its stocks. Here the three segment weights are fixed instead.

Between two rebalance dates, a segment's weight can differ from its fixed level because the prices of its stocks drift.

When it is reviewed

The index is reconstituted semi-annually and its weights are rebalanced quarterly.

Quarterly rebalancing runs from the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, using closing prices from three days before that last trading day.

Each quarter the index is also screened against the portfolio concentration norms for ETFs and index funds that SEBI announced on 10 Jan 2019.

Base date and value

The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 2 Dec 2020.
