About the BSE 100
The BSE 100 measures the performance of the 100 largest and most liquid Indian companies within the BSE LargeMidCap. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The index is derived from the constituents of the BSE LargeMidCap. Because Differential Voting Rights shares (DVRs) can be included alongside a company's ordinary shares, the index can hold more than 100 stocks, but the number of companies stays fixed at 100.
At each rebalancing, a company must have an annualized traded value of at least ₹1,000 crore, though current members stay eligible at ₹800 crore. It must also have no more than five non-trading days in the past six months. Both are measured over the prior six months.
Eligible companies are ranked by average daily float-adjusted market capitalization. The top 80 are selected, and existing members ranked 81 to 120 fill the rest in rank order until the count reaches 100. If that still leaves fewer than 100, other companies are added in rank order.
Any share class of a company not linked to derivatives trading can weigh at most 5% of the index, and all such companies together at most 10%. If a limit is breached, the next eligible company is taken, preferring those with derivatives trading.
How it is weighted
Members are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization: the value of a company's shares, counting only the available float as set by its Investable Weight Factor.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semiannually, in Jun and Dec.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 3 Jan 1989, and its values begin on 3 Apr 1984.
