About Navi Mutual Fund schemes

Navi Mutual Fund is a mutual fund house registered with SEBI, run by Navi AMC Limited and sponsored by Navi MF Sponsor Private Limited. It began as Peerless Mutual Fund, registered on 4 Dec 2009, became Essel Mutual Fund in 2017 and took the Navi name in 2021. Most of its schemes are index funds.

Sponsor, trustee and asset management company

A mutual fund in India is a trust. The sponsor sets it up, the trustee company holds the investors' assets and watches over it, and the asset management company (AMC) picks the investments and runs the schemes. For Navi, the sponsor is Navi MF Sponsor Private Limited, wholly owned by Navi Limited, the trustee is Navi Trustee Limited and the AMC is Navi AMC Limited.

The AMC was incorporated on 9 Apr 2009 and the fund was set up as a trust on 4 Aug 2009. Its SEBI registration number, MF/062/09/03, has not changed.

History of the fund house

The fund began as Peerless Mutual Fund, sponsored by The Peerless General Finance and Investment Company. Essel Finance Wealth Zone bought Peerless's shares in the AMC and trustee in 2017, and SEBI issued a certificate in the name of Essel Mutual Fund on 31 Oct 2017. In Feb 2021 Navi MF Sponsor Private Limited bought the majority of the shares in the AMC and the trustee, and the fund became Navi Mutual Fund under a certificate dated 25 Mar 2021.

Types of schemes

The fund house runs equity, hybrid, debt and index schemes, plus funds of funds that invest abroad. This page groups its live funds as equity, hybrid, debt, and index funds, ETFs and funds of funds, and labels each by SEBI category: ELSS, Flexi Cap, Large & Mid Cap, Aggressive Hybrid, Liquid, index funds and overseas funds of funds.

Most of its schemes are index funds. An index fund copies a market index such as the Nifty 50, Nifty Next 50 or BSE Sensex instead of picking stocks, so its cost, shown as the expense ratio, is the main difference between similar funds. Two overseas funds of funds follow the NASDAQ 100 and the US total stock market.

What this page shows

The page lists each live fund with its category, NAV (the price of one unit), 1-, 3- and 5-year returns, size in crores and cost. Returns are for the plan the fund's page leads with, Direct where one exists. The 3- and 5-year returns are annualised, meaning compounded per year.

Assets managed are the average money in the house's funds over the latest quarter, counting money its own funds of funds hold in its other funds once. The page also lists fund managers, new and recently closed fund offers, investor complaints for the latest month and how the house's funds voted at company meetings.
