About the Nifty Next 50

Nifty Next 50 is an index of the 50 companies left in the Nifty 100 once the Nifty 50 companies are taken out, maintained by NSE Indices Limited.

How companies are chosen

The Nifty 100 is the top 100 companies by full market capitalisation in the Nifty 500.

How it is weighted

Weights follow free float market capitalization, which counts the floating stock, the shares available for trading.

Stocks outside the F&O (Futures & Options) segment are capped at 10% of the index together. Each one is individually capped at 4.5%.

The capping factors are realigned on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.

When it is reviewed

The index is rebalanced twice a year, with cut-off dates of 31 Jan and 31 Jul, using six-month average data, and the market gets four weeks' notice before a change.

Base date and value

The base date is 4 Nov 1996, with a base value of 1000. The index launched on 24 Dec 1996.
