About the BSE 150 MidCap Index
The BSE 150 MidCap Index tracks the performance of the 150 largest companies by total market capitalization that are in the BSE 500 but not in the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC.
How companies are chosen
The index is derived from the constituents of the BSE 500. Those not in the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC are ranked by average six-month daily total market capitalization, which leaves a universe of 400 stocks.
The top 120 companies, whether current constituents or not, are selected first. Existing constituents ranked 121 to 180 are then added in order of highest rank until the count of 150 is reached; if it is still short, non-constituents are added in order of highest rank.
Where a company has multiple share classes, the eligible classes are combined to measure its market capitalization. A company's DVR shares can be included beside its ordinary shares, so the index can hold more than 150 stocks while the count of companies stays at 150.
Between reviews, a new BSE 500 company that is not added to the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC goes to either this index or the BSE 250 SmallCap, based on its daily six-month average total market capitalization as of the last business day of the previous month.
How it is weighted
Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, and a company's available float is defined by its Investable Weight Factor.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semiannually in Jun and Dec. Changes take effect at the open of the Monday following the third Friday of Jun and Dec, with the last trading day of Apr and Oct as the reference date.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 30 Nov 2017; its values start from 16 Sep 2005 (its first value date).
