About the BSE 250 SmallCap Index
The BSE 250 SmallCap Index tracks the 250 small-cap companies, ranked by total market capitalization, within the BSE 500. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The index is derived from the BSE 500. Every BSE 500 constituent that is not a member of the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC or the BSE 150 MidCap is selected.
Differential voting rights shares (DVRs) are eligible when the ordinary share class is in the index or is added at the same time, and the DVR shares outstanding are greater than 10% of the ordinary shares outstanding. Including DVRs can take the count of stocks above 250, while the number of companies stays fixed at 250.
How it is weighted
Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. Investable weight factors define the available float for a company.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced twice a year, in Jun and Dec.
Between rebalancings, a company newly added to the BSE 500 that is not added to the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC joins either the BSE 150 MidCap or this index, by its daily six-month average total market capitalization as of the last business day of the previous month.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 30 Nov 2017, with a first value date of 16 Sep 2005.
