About the Nifty 100

The Nifty 100 is an index of the top 100 companies by full market capitalisation from the Nifty 500, maintained by NSE Indices Limited. It measures the performance of large market capitalisation companies and tracks the combined portfolio of the Nifty 50 and the Nifty Next 50.

How companies are chosen

A company must form part of the Nifty 500. It is included if it ranks among the top 90 by full market capitalisation, or if its full market capitalisation is 1.50 times that of the last constituent of the Nifty 100.

It is excluded if its rank falls below 110 or it leaves the Nifty 500. A company also needs a listing history of at least 1 month at the cut-off date.

It must also have either an investible weight factor of at least 0.10 (10% free float) or a 6 month average free float market capitalisation of at least 25% of the 6 month average full market capitalisation of the smallest existing member. The investible weight factor measures floating stock, the shares normally expected to be available for trading in the market.

How it is weighted

Each company is weighted by its free float market capitalisation.

When it is reviewed

Members are reviewed every six months on data to 31 Jan and 31 Jul. Four weeks' notice is given before a change.

Base date and value

The base date is 1 Jan 2003 and the base value is 1000. The index was launched on 1 Dec 2005.
