About the BSE LargeMidCap

The BSE LargeMidCap is the index of the companies that make up the top 85% of the BSE AllCap by cumulative average daily total market cap, the large-cap and mid-cap segments together. It combines the BSE LargeCap and the BSE MidCap, is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd., and held 294 companies on 30 Sep 2026.

How companies are chosen

Membership is decided by size rank within the BSE AllCap. Companies are sorted by average daily total market cap (the market value of all a company's shares, averaged over the days observed), largest first, and their market caps are added up. Those accumulating to the first 70% are large-cap and the next 15% are mid-cap, so the BSE LargeMidCap holds everything up to 85%. The BSE LargeCap holds the first 70%, the BSE MidCap the next 15%, and the BSE SmallCap the final 15%.

A buffer of 5% either side of each split reduces turnover: a company that moves within that range around a split keeps its size class. The check is made at the Sep reconstitution, and the rules fix no company count.

The BSE AllCap itself starts from companies listed on BSE and leaves out groups Y, Z and P, InvITs, SME-platform and suspended companies, and those listed for under six months (one month for IPOs and spin-offs). Companies need a trading frequency of at least 80% and an impact cost of 1% or less over the prior six months, and those under BSE surveillance objection or on the Graded Surveillance Measure list are excluded. The bottom 10 percentile by annualised traded value and by average daily float-adjusted market cap are dropped, and the AllCap aims at a minimum of 1200 companies.

How it is weighted

Weights follow float-adjusted market cap: the market cap of the shares available for trading, found by applying each company's Investable Weight Factor, which is reviewed quarterly. Unlike the BSE sector indices, it puts no cap on one company's weight.

When it is reviewed

The index is reconstituted annually, effective at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Sep, using data to the last trading day of Jul. Quarterly reviews follow in Dec, Mar and Jun. Between reconstitutions a company changes size class only after a major capital event such as a spin-off or merger that, for example, halves or doubles its total market cap; price movement never changes it. Such a change takes effect at the quarterly share update, on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.

Base date and value

The index has a base date of 16 Sep 2005 and a base value of 1000, and was launched on 15 Apr 2015.
