About the BSE SENSEX Next 50 TMC
The BSE SENSEX Next 50 TMC measures the performance of the 50 companies in the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC that are not members of the BSE SENSEX 50 TMC. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of BSE, and is calculated in rupees and US dollars.
How companies are chosen
The index has no ranking of its own. Its universe is the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC, which holds 100 of the largest and most liquid companies in the BSE 500, chosen by total market capitalization (a company's full share count at market price). The BSE SENSEX 50 TMC takes 50 of those 100: the ones with a derivative contract, ranked by average daily total market capitalization, with the top 40 taken first and existing members ranked 41 to 60 added until the count reaches 50. Every company of the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC left over forms this index.
To enter the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC, a company must have had no more than five non-trading days in the past six months and an annualized traded value of at least ₹1,000 crore (₹800 crore for current members). Differential voting rights shares can be included if the ordinary share is in the universe and the DVR passes the liquidity criteria.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization: market capitalization scaled by each company's Investable Weight Factor, which sets the share of the company available for trading. Weight factors are reviewed every quarter and take effect at the open of the Monday after the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced twice a year, effective at the open of the Monday after the third Friday of Jun and Dec.
Between rebalancings, a company dropped because of a corporate action is replaced by the most eligible non-member to keep the count at 50. If a fast-tracked IPO enters the BSE SENSEX 50 TMC, that index's smallest company moves into this one, and this index's smallest company is dropped to keep the count at 50.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 18 Apr 2018. Its first value date is 16 Dec 2005 and its base value is 1,000.
