About the BSE MidCap
The BSE MidCap is an index designed to represent the mid-cap segment of India's stock market: the 15% of the total market capitalization of the BSE AllCap that comes after the large-cap index. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
Constituents are drawn from the BSE AllCap at the annual reconstitution in Sep. The BSE AllCap is a broad index of the Indian equity market that aims to hold at least 1,200 companies at each rebalancing. Its companies are sorted by cumulative average daily total market capitalization: those accumulating to 70% are large-cap, the next 15% are mid-cap and the final 15% are small-cap.
A buffer of 5% either side of each boundary reduces turnover: a company whose ranking moves within that band keeps its size group.
Between reconstitutions, a major capital event such as a spin-off or merger may move a company to another size group, for example one that halves or doubles its market capitalization. Price moves alone do not.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, which counts only the float. Investable weight factors define each company's available float and are reviewed quarterly.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted annually in Sep, effective from the Monday after the third Friday of the month, using data to the last trading day of Jul. Quarterly reviews fall in Dec, Mar and Jun.
Base date and value
The index launched on 11 Apr 2005. Its first value date is 1 Apr 2003.
Its base value is the closing value of its legacy index on 15 Apr 2015, and history before that date is based on the legacy index and its methodology.
