About the BSE SENSEX 50 TMC
The BSE SENSEX 50 TMC is an index of 50 of the largest and most liquid companies in the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC, the large-company index ranked by total market capitalization (the market value of all of a company's shares). BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd. maintains it.
How companies are chosen
Companies come from the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC. To be eligible, a company must be linked to derivatives trading, meaning it has a derivative contract.
Eligible companies are ranked by average daily total market capitalization. The top 40 are selected, whether or not they are current members. Current members ranked 41 to 60 are then added in order of rank until the index reaches 50. If it is still short of 50, non-members are added in order of rank.
A company's differential voting rights (DVR) shares may be included if its ordinary shares are in the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC and the DVR shares pass the liquidity criteria. They can push the number of stocks above 50, but the number of companies stays fixed at 50.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization: market capitalization adjusted for the shares available to trade.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, in Jun and Dec.
A large IPO can be added between reviews if it ranks in the top 30 by the index's ranking measure, has at least one month of listing history, and meets the derivatives rule. The smallest company in the index then drops out and moves to the BSE SENSEX Next 50 TMC, which holds the companies of the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC outside this index.
Base date and value
The index launched on 18 Apr 2018. Its base date is 16 Dec 2005 and its base value is 1000.
