About the BSE SENSEX 50
The BSE SENSEX 50 measures the performance of the 50 largest and most liquid stocks in the BSE LargeMidCap by float-adjusted market capitalization. A company's available float is defined by its investable weight factor. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The index is derived from the constituents of the BSE 100, which is itself 100 of the largest and most liquid companies within the BSE LargeMidCap. To be eligible, a company must have a derivative contract.
Eligible companies are ranked by average daily float-adjusted market capitalization. The top 40 are selected whether or not they are current members. Existing members ranked 41 to 60 fill the rest in rank order until the count reaches 50. If the count is still short, non-constituents are added in rank order.
The BSE SENSEX Next 50 holds the 50 companies of the BSE 100 that are not members of this index.
How it is weighted
Members are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, and the index is rebalanced semiannually, in Jun and Dec.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 6 Dec 2016, and its values begin on 16 Dec 2005.
