About the BSE SENSEX Sixty
BSE SENSEX Sixty combines the 30 companies of the BSE SENSEX with the 30 of the BSE SENSEX Next 30, giving 60 companies. It is weighted by float-adjusted market cap and maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of BSE India Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The index has no ranking of its own: every company in the BSE SENSEX and in the BSE SENSEX Next 30 is in it, and any change to the composition of either index is carried into it. Both are drawn from the BSE 100.
The BSE SENSEX is fixed at 30 companies. A stock needs a listing history of at least six months at BSE, must have traded on every trading day of the six-month reference period, and must have a derivative contract. After screens on traded value and on weight, the top 21 by average six-month float-adjusted market cap are taken first, then existing members ranked 22 to 39 fill the rest, in order of rank, until 30 is reached, with other companies added only if it is still short.
The BSE SENSEX Next 30 takes BSE 100 companies that are not in the BSE SENSEX, also with a derivative contract and a trade on every trading day of the six-month period. The top 24 by average daily float-adjusted market cap are taken first, then existing members ranked 25 to 36 until 30 is reached, and other companies in order of rank if it is still short.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market cap: market cap counting only the shares available for trading. The available float of each company is set by its Investable Weight Factor, reviewed every quarter. A change of five percentage points or more is made as soon as reasonably possible after the data is verified.
The BSE SENSEX Sixty 65:35 is a separate index that resets the BSE SENSEX companies to 65% of the total weight and the BSE SENSEX Next 30 companies to 35% each quarter. This index does not do that.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced twice a year, in Jun and Dec. The changes take effect on the Monday after the third Friday of those months, and the data is taken as of the last trading day of Apr and Oct.
Base date and value
The base date is 23 Jun 2014 and the base value is 10,000. The index was launched on 4 Oct 2024.
