About the Nifty Midcap 100
The Nifty Midcap 100 is an index of 100 tradable stocks listed on the National Stock Exchange, designed to capture the movement of the midcap segment of the market. It belongs to the broad equity index series of NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
The Nifty Midcap 150 is the companies ranked 101 to 250 by full market capitalisation in the Nifty 500. The Nifty Midcap 50 is the top 50 companies by six-month average free float market capitalization, chosen from the 100 companies of the Nifty Midcap 150 that rank highest on market capitalisation and turnover.
All companies in the Nifty Midcap 50 are included, and a company added to the Nifty Midcap 50 that is not yet in the Nifty Midcap 100 joins it.
The remaining companies come from the Nifty Midcap 150 and are ranked by average daily turnover. A security joins if its rank is among the top 70. An existing member is excluded if its rank is below 130 or if it leaves the Nifty Midcap 150.
The Nifty 200 includes all companies in the Nifty 100 and the Nifty Midcap 100.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by free float market capitalization. Each company's investible weight factor is a unit of floating stock expressed as a number available for trading, which is normally expected to be available for trading in the market.
When it is reviewed
The index is re-balanced semi-annually. The cut-off dates are 31 Jan and 31 Jul of each year, and average data for the six months ending the cut-off date is used. The market gets four weeks' notice of a change.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Jan 2003 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 18 Jul 2005.
