About the BSE SENSEX Next 30
The BSE SENSEX Next 30 tracks the next largest and most liquid companies in the BSE 100 that have derivative contracts and are not members of the BSE SENSEX. It holds 30 companies and is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
Companies come from the BSE 100 constituents that are not members of the BSE SENSEX, and each must have a derivative contract. Each must also have traded on every trading day at BSE during the six-month reference period. Only common stocks are eligible.
Eligible companies are ranked by average daily float-adjusted market capitalization. The top 24 are selected, whether or not they are current members. Current members ranked 25 to 36 then fill the index in order of rank until it reaches 30, and non-constituents fill any remaining places in order of rank.
A large new listing can join early as a fast-tracked IPO if it ranks among the top 30 companies on the index's own ranking; it must also meet the derivatives market linkage rule.
How it is weighted
Members are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. A company's investable weight factor defines its available float, and these factors are reviewed quarterly.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced twice a year, in Jun and Dec, effective on the Monday following the third Friday of the month, using data as of the last trading day of Apr and Oct.
When a company leaves because of a corporate action, the most eligible non-constituent is added in its place to keep the count at 30.
Base date and value
The index launched on 5 Aug 2024, and its first value date is 20 Jun 2014.
