About the BSE Financial Services

BSE Financial Services is a sector index of the companies in the BSE AllCap that the India Industry Classification Structure places under the Financial Services macro-economic indicator. It held 197 companies on 30 Sep 2026. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.

How companies are chosen

The index takes the AllCap companies whose macro-economic indicator is Financial Services, the only indicator behind this index. All eligible share classes of a company go to the same index. It was called BSE Finance until the change effective after the close of 16 Sep 2022.

A company enters the AllCap only with a listing history of at least six months (one month for an IPO or spin-off), a trading frequency of at least 80% over the prior six months and an average impact cost (the extra price paid to trade a set order size) of 1% or less over that period. The AllCap aims for at least 1200 companies at each rebalancing.

A company whose indicator changes between reconstitutions moves at the next quarterly share update.

How it is weighted

Weights follow float-adjusted market capitalization, the market value of only the shares available for trading. Each quarter, one company can weigh at most 33% and the three largest together at most 63%; any excess goes proportionately to the uncapped stocks. All 11 AllCap sector indices share these caps.

When it is reviewed

The index is reconstituted each year from market open on the Monday after the third Friday of Sep, using data as of the last trading day of Jul. Caps, share updates and indicator changes take effect on the Monday after the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. In Mar, a company whose average daily total market capitalization is below ₹50 crore on the last trading day of Jan is removed.

Base date and value

The index was launched on 15 Apr 2015. Its first value date and base date are 16 Sep 2005 and its base value is 1000. It is calculated in real time in rupees and US dollars.
