About the BSE Capital Goods
The BSE Capital Goods index comprises the BSE 500 companies classified as members of the capital goods sector under the BSE industry classification system. It is weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization and holds at least 10 companies.
How companies are chosen
The capital goods sector covers these basic industries: Heavy Electrical Equipment, Construction Vehicles, Aerospace & Defence, Other Industrial Products, Packaging, Cables - Electricals, Industrial Products, Compressors & Pumps & Diesel Engines, Plastic Products - Industrial, Rubber, Abrasives & Bearings, Glass - Industrial, Other Electrical Equipment, Electrodes & Refractories, Castings & Forgings, Aluminium & Copper & Zinc Products, Railway Wagons, and Ship Building & Allied Services.
Eligible stocks are ranked by average float-adjusted market capitalization until they cover at least 90% of the sector's average float-adjusted market capitalization. Companies must also have traded at least 90% of the time in the preceding six months.
A buffer of 2% applies to inclusion and exclusion to limit changes in membership: a non-constituent is included only if it falls within 88% coverage, and a constituent is excluded only if it falls above 92% coverage.
How it is weighted
Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. Investable weight factors define the available float for a company.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semiannually, in Jun and Dec.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 9 Aug 1999, and its first value date is 1 Feb 1999.
