About the Nifty500 Healthcare
Nifty500 Healthcare tracks healthcare stocks drawn from the Nifty 500, up to the 50 largest by free-float market capitalisation. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited. Free float is the share of a company's shares that is available for trading.
How companies are chosen
Only stocks in the Nifty 500 at the time of review are eligible, and only those in the basic industries that represent the healthcare sector. These include pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, hospitals, healthcare service providers, medical equipment and supplies, pharmacy retail, and healthcare research, analytics and technology. The list may be updated from time to time.
The index takes the 50 largest eligible stocks by six-month average free-float market capitalisation. Stocks that trade in NSE's futures and options (F&O) segment are picked first. Non-F&O stocks fill any remaining places. The index holds at least 10 stocks where enough qualify.
A stock outside both the index and F&O is ineligible if, over the past 6 months to the cut-off date, it hit the upper or lower price limit on at least 20% of trading days. Hitting both limits on one day counts twice.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalisation, and no single stock may exceed 10%. The cap is applied on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Between those dates weights drift with prices.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, in Mar and Sep, using data for the six months ended Jan and Jul. A stock that leaves the Nifty 500 also leaves this index at the next review. An F&O stock outside the index replaces the smallest member outside F&O. Any other newcomer needs a free-float market capitalisation at least 1.5 times that of the smallest member of its kind, F&O or not. Extra changes follow a deletion from the Nifty 500, a suspension, a delisting or a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 25 Jun 2025.
