About the BSE MidSmall Private Banks
BSE MidSmall Private Banks is an index of the private sector and other banks in the BSE 1000, leaving out the companies in the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC, a large-cap index. Its rules fix no company count. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the BSE 1000, the index of 1,000 of the largest and most liquid Indian companies within BSE AllCap, together with companies traded under a permitted category at BSE. Companies are ranked by average free-float market capitalization, the value of the shares available to trade, and only those above the 25th percentile are kept. Every company in the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC is then excluded.
All remaining companies classified as Private Banks or Other Banks under the Basic Industry form the index.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, with a cap of 20% on any one stock. This is the point where it parts from the BSE MidSmall Private Banks Quality Tilt, which uses the same selection but multiplies market capitalization by a quality score and caps a stock at 33%.
The cap is applied each quarter, at the open of the Monday following the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Index shares are set using the closing prices on the Wednesday before the second Friday of the rebalancing month.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semi-annually, in Jun and Dec, effective at the open of the Monday following the third Friday of the month. Between rebalancings, share count changes under 5% are made quarterly and larger ones as soon as the data is verified.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 2 Jul 2026. Its history starts from its base date, 24 Dec 2018, at a base value of 1000.
