About the Nifty MidSmall IT & Telecom
The Nifty MidSmall IT & Telecom tracks the performance of the mid cap and small cap stocks within the information technology and telecommunication sector. It includes up to 20 stocks selected from the Nifty MidSmallcap 400, and is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Stocks in the Nifty MidSmallcap 400 at the time of review are eligible. A stock without futures and options (F&O) contracts is ineligible if it hit the upper or lower circuit (price band) on 20% or more of the trading days in the past 6 months as of the cut-off date; each time a stock hits either circuit on a trading day counts as one instance.
Eligible stocks in the sector are sorted by their 6-month average free-float market capitalization, and 20 are selected, subject to availability. If fewer than 20 stocks are eligible, the index continues with the number available.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free float market capitalization. A stock is capped at 33% and the top 3 stocks together at 62% at rebalancing; the capping is done on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The cut-off dates are 31 Jan and 31 Jul each year, using average data for the six months ending on that date, with four weeks' notice to the market before a change. The index is reconstituted with its parent index in Mar and Sep.
A stock outside the index replaces the smallest constituent if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that constituent's. An ad-hoc reconstitution follows if a constituent leaves the Nifty MidSmallcap 400 or is suspended, delisted or undergoes a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 3 Aug 2022. Its base date is 1 Apr 2005 and its base value is 1000.
