About Nippon India Mutual Fund schemes

Nippon India Mutual Fund, earlier known as Reliance Mutual Fund, is sponsored by Nippon Life Insurance Company of Japan. Its schemes are run by Nippon Life India Asset Management Limited and cover equity, hybrid, debt, gold, index fund and ETF categories.

Sponsor, trustee and AMC

Nippon Life Insurance Company is the sponsor, the company that set up the fund as a trust. Nippon Life India Trustee Limited is the trustee, which holds the investors' assets and oversees the fund. Nippon Life India Asset Management Limited is the asset management company (AMC) that makes the investment decisions.

The fund was constituted as a trust and registered with SEBI on 30 Jun 1995, under registration code MF/022/95/1. The AMC was incorporated on 24 Feb 1995 and is a listed company in which the sponsor holds the majority of the shares. Schemes launched under the Reliance name keep their original launch dates.

Schemes it runs

The house offers equity funds across market capitalisation, sector and theme, hybrid funds, debt funds from overnight and liquid to longer bond funds, gold funds and retirement funds. It also runs a large range of index funds, exchange traded funds (ETFs, which trade on the stock exchange like a share) and funds of funds. This page groups the live schemes under Equity, Hybrid, Debt, Solution Oriented, and Index funds, ETFs and FoFs, with each category linked to its own page.

Its ETF range includes Nippon India ETF Nifty 50 BeES, launched in Dec 2001 and earlier named Reliance ETF Nifty BeES.

How returns and size are shown

Each fund row shows its NAV (net asset value, the price of one unit), returns over 1, 3 and 5 years, size and cost. Returns are for the Direct plan where the fund has one. Three and five year returns are a yearly compounded rate.

Assets managed is the average over the latest quarter, added across the house's funds. Where one of its funds of funds holds units of another fund of the house, that money is counted once.

Fund managers

The manager table lists each person who runs the house's funds, the number of funds, the money in them and a since date, the earliest start date the house files for that manager on any of its funds. A fund with two managers counts in full for each, so manager totals add up to more than the house's assets.

Complaints and voting

Complaints are counted for the latest month: how many came in, how many were resolved, and how many were still open when the month closed. It also shows the company meetings and resolutions on which the house's funds voted in the latest quarter, and how many votes were against or abstained. A resolution voted on by several of the house's funds counts once.
