About the BSE SmallCap Select Index
The BSE SmallCap Select Index is a rules-based index designed to measure the performance of the 60 largest, most liquid companies within the BSE SmallCap. Its rules are set by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the constituents of the BSE SmallCap. Only common stocks with a listing history of at least six months are eligible.
A company must have an average daily float-adjusted market capitalization of at least ₹600 crore, an annualized traded value of at least ₹300 crore, a turnover ratio of at least 20% and no more than five non-trading days in the past six months. Current members stay eligible at ₹480 crore, ₹240 crore and 16%.
Annualized traded value is the median of the monthly medians of the daily traded values over the observation period, scaled to 250 trading days in a year. The turnover ratio is the annualized traded value divided by the average daily float-adjusted market capitalization.
Eligible companies are ranked by average daily float-adjusted market capitalization within their macro-economic sector group, and only the top 15 in each group go forward. The top 40 are selected, existing members ranked 41 to 80 fill the list towards 60, and non-members ranked 41 to 80 fill any gap.
How it is weighted
Members are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, which counts only a company's available float.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced every six months, effective on the Monday after the third Friday of Mar and Sep. The reference date is the third Friday of Feb and Aug.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 15 Jun 2015, with a first value date of 16 Sep 2005.
