About the BSE CPSE
The BSE CPSE is an index of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) listed on BSE, meaning companies in which the Central Government or other CPSEs hold 51% or more. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
Every company the Ministry of Public Sector Enterprises classifies as a CPSE and that is listed on BSE can be a member. Public Sector Banks are not classed as CPSEs.
A company is not eligible if it is in the Z group at BSE, trades under a permitted category, has been objected to by BSE's Surveillance Department, is on the Graded Surveillance Measure (GSM) list, trades on BSE's SME platform, or is suspended on the rebalancing reference date. A company dropped for being on the GSM list must stay off it for six consecutive months before the reference date to be considered again. Only common stocks qualify.
How it is weighted
Members are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization: the market value of the shares available for trading, measured by each company's investable weight factor.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced twice a year. Changes take effect at the open of the Monday following the third Friday of Jun and Dec, using data as of the last trading day of Apr and Oct. No company is added between rebalancings.
A company that joins the GSM list is dropped at the open of the Tuesday following the first Monday of each month; the list's reference date is the third Friday of each month.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 29 Sep 2014. Its first value date and base date are both 8 Jul 2008, and its base value is 1000.
