About the Nifty Power
Nifty Power is an index that aims to track the performance of stocks from the Power sector within the Nifty Total Market. It held 23 companies on 30 Sep 2026. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Stocks in the Nifty Total Market at the time of review are eligible, and those whose basic industries belong to the Power sector are included from that universe. Every eligible stock is selected.
A stock that is not already a member and does not trade in the F&O segment is ineligible if the number of times it hit its upper or lower price circuit (price band) in the past 6 months is 20% or more of the number of trading days in that period. Each trading day on which it hits the circuit counts once, and twice if it hits both. The index holds a minimum of 10 stocks.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalization, which is based on the shares normally expected to be available for trading in the market, and stock weights are capped at 20%.
The cap is applied quarterly, at rebalancing on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Weights may drift between rebalancings as prices move.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed and reconstituted twice a year, in Mar and Sep, using data for the previous six months ended Jan and Jul.
A stock that leaves the Nifty Total Market also leaves this index at the review.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 12 Jun 2026 and is calculated at the end of each day.
