About the Nifty Capital Markets
Nifty Capital Markets is an index of at most 20 stocks from the Nifty 500 that represent the capital market theme. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Stocks in the Nifty 500, or about to join it at the time of review, are eligible. Within that universe the eligible industries are asset management companies, exchange and data platforms, stockbroking and allied services, depositories, clearing houses and other intermediaries, financial products distributors, ratings and other capital market related services.
The largest 20 stocks from those industries are selected on 6-month average free-float market capitalization, which is based on the shares normally expected to be available for trading in the market.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalization, and a stock's weight is capped at 20%. The cap is applied at rebalancing, so a weight can drift above 20% between rebalancings as prices move.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually and rebalanced quarterly. Capping takes effect on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2019 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 9 Sep 2024.
