About the BSE Internet Economy
BSE Internet Economy measures the performance of companies that mostly operate on digital platforms and whose business depends significantly on the internet. It holds 20 companies, selected from the BSE 500 Index.
How companies are chosen
A stock is eligible if it is in the BSE 500 Index, or about to join it, and belongs to one of the basic industries listed for the index: E-Retail/ E-Commerce, Internet & Catalogue Retail, Tour, Travel Related Services, E-Learning, Depositories, Clearing Houses and Other Intermediaries, Exchange and Data Platform, Stockbroking & Allied, Financial Technology (Fintech), and the telecom services and equipment industries.
Eligible stocks are ranked by average six-month daily float-adjusted market capitalization, and the top 20 on that ranking are selected.
In Stockbroking and Allied, companies with a high share of revenue from digital broking, capital markets, broking and depository operations are preferred.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, with a cap of 15% on any one stock. The cap is applied each quarter, effective at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
The float is set by Investable Weight Factors, which define the available float for a company.
When it is reviewed
The index rebalances semi-annually, in Jun and Dec. Each rebalancing takes effect at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of the month, using data as of the close on the last trading day of Apr and Oct.
Most BSE thematic indices add no stocks between rebalancings; that rule does not apply to this index. A company whose industry classification changes so that it becomes ineligible is deleted at the quarterly share update.
Base date and value
The index launched on 10 Oct 2024. Its values start on 23 Jun 2014.
