About the Nifty India FPI 150
The Nifty India FPI 150 is an index of 150 companies from the Nifty 500, chosen for how accessible and investable they are to foreign investors. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited and weights each company by the part of its free-float market value that foreign investors can hold.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the Nifty 500 at the time of each review. Within it, a company must rank in the top 350 on all three of: six-month average daily turnover, six-month average free-float market capitalization and six-month average full market capitalization. Free-float market capitalization counts only the shares available for trading. A company outside the Futures and Options segment of NSE qualifies only if it ranks in the top 150 by six-month average daily turnover.
Companies on the 'Red flag' and 'Breach list' of the CDSL and NSDL foreign portfolio investor (FPI) monitoring disclosure are excluded. So is any company with foreign room below 0.10. Foreign room is the foreign ownership limit less the foreign holding already used, divided by that limit. A company with a foreign investible factor below 0.10 qualifies only if it ranks in the top 100 by six-month average foreign investible free-float market capitalization. That factor is the share of a company's market value open to foreign investors, set from its filed shareholding pattern.
From the companies that pass, the 150 with the highest six-month average foreign investible free-float market capitalization form the index.
How it is weighted
The rules set no cap on any single stock or sector, so weights follow foreign investible free-float market capitalization alone.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed quarterly, in Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, using six-month average data ended Jan, Apr, Jul and Oct respectively. At a review, an eligible company outside the index replaces the smallest member if its foreign investible free-float market capitalization is at least 1.25 times that member's. Companies that left the Nifty 500 leave the index at the review.
An extra reconstitution happens between reviews if a member lands on the Red flag or Breach list, or is removed from the Nifty 500 through a corporate action or an exchange suspension.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 3 Oct 2022 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 16 Aug 2025. A Total Returns variant, which includes dividends, also exists.
