About the Nifty Midcap Select
The Nifty Midcap Select is an index of 25 liquid midcap stocks chosen from the Nifty Midcap 150. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
A stock is eligible if it is in the Nifty Midcap 150 at the time of the review and is available for trading on the Futures & Options segment of NSE on the review date.
The five stocks with the highest 6-month average full market capitalization are selected first. The next 20 are chosen from the rest: stocks are reranked on 6-month average full market capitalization and average daily turnover, those in the top 50 by both are ranked by 6-month average free-float market capitalization, and the top 20 of that reranked universe join.
An existing member is excluded if its free-float rank in the reranked universe falls beyond 30. A new eligible stock in the reranked universe enters if its 6-month average free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest member.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalization, which rests on the floating stock, a number of shares expected to be available for trading in the market.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted in Mar and Sep, on data for the six months ending Jan and Jul respectively.
An unscheduled reconstitution follows if a member undergoes a corporate action or suspension, or stops trading on the F&O segment.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 3 Oct 2005 and a base value of 1000. It was launched on 14 Sep 2021.
