About the BSE Multicap Consumption (50:30:20)
The BSE Multicap Consumption (50:30:20) tracks 100 companies on the consumption theme: stocks in the BSE 500 classed as Consumer Discretionary or Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG). Large, mid and small companies are weighted 50%, 30% and 20%. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
A stock is eligible if it is in the BSE 500 and its macro-economic indicator, the broad sector it is classified under, is Consumer Discretionary or FMCG. Eligible stocks are ranked by average 6-month total market capitalisation, the value of all a company's shares, and the top 100 are chosen.
At each review the top 80 ranked companies, whether current members or not, are selected. Existing members ranked 81 to 120 are kept in order of rank until 100 is reached. If that leaves the index short, non-members join in order of rank until it holds 100.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalisation, which counts only the shares available for public trading. Each stock is placed in a Large, Mid or Small group according to whether it belongs to the BSE 100 LargeCap TMC, BSE 150 MidCap or BSE 250 SmallCap index.
The groups' combined weights are fixed at 50% Large, 30% Mid and 20% Small, and no single company can exceed 10% within its group. These caps apply quarterly, effective at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced twice a year, in Jun and Dec. Any addition or deletion between reviews triggers an ad-hoc rebalancing that reweighs all the individual stock caps, using closing prices from seven business days before the rebalancing date. It is also checked each quarter against SEBI's four portfolio concentration norms for ETFs and index funds.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 20 Oct 2025. Its history starts on 19 Dec 2005, the base date, at a base value of 1,000.
