About the BSE Premium Consumption
The BSE Premium Consumption is an index of companies from industries that broadly have an association to premium spends, selected by free-float market capitalization from the BSE 500 Index. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the BSE 500, and a stock must belong to one of the basic industries the index's rules list. Each stock needs an average six-month daily float-adjusted market capitalization of at least ₹1,000 crore. Stocks are ranked within their basic industry by that figure, and at most 3 companies are taken from each listed sub-industry.
Float-adjusted means counting only the available float, the shares a company has open to trade.
The listed basic industries include passenger cars and utility vehicles, gems, jewellery and watches, sanitary ware, furniture and home furnishing, and hotels and resorts.
How it is weighted
The weighting method is capped float-adjusted market capitalization. One stock can hold at most 10%, applied each quarter from the Monday after the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is reviewed twice a year, in Jun and Dec, using data from the close of the last trading day of Apr and Oct. No stocks are added between reviews, and a company whose industry classification becomes ineligible is deleted at the quarterly share update.
Base date and value
The index launched on 17 Oct 2024. Its first value date is 23 Jun 2014.
