About the Nifty Core Housing
The Nifty Core Housing Index measures the performance of stocks that represent the core housing theme. It holds up to 30 companies and is managed by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Stocks in the Nifty 500 are the eligible universe, and only basic industries within the core housing theme are eligible.
The largest 30 stocks from those industries are chosen by 6 month average free-float market capitalisation, the value of the shares available for trading, which leaves out promoter holdings.
A company outside the index is included only if its free-float market capitalisation is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest constituent.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight is based on its free-float market capitalisation and is capped at 15%.
A weight can rise above the cap between rebalances as prices move. The cap is reapplied when stocks are replaced and every quarter, effective from the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted semi-annually, along with the Nifty broad-based indices, using data for the six months ending Jan and Jul.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 16 May 2023, with a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1000.
