About the Nifty AI Catalysts
The Nifty AI Catalysts tracks Nifty 500 companies that provide the products, services and infrastructure behind the AI ecosystem, from computing and connectivity to power, cooling and construction. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited and held 48 companies on 30 Sep 2026.
How companies are chosen
Only companies in the Nifty 500 at the time of review are eligible, and each must fit one of seven groups: cloud computing and AI models; semiconductor equipment, manufacturing and design; data centre and infrastructure development; cooling and thermal management; cables, electrical components and materials; data transmission and connectivity; and energy and power infrastructure.
Within each group, eligible stocks are ranked by their 6-month average free-float market capitalization (the market value of only the shares available for trading, leaving out holdings such as promoters' and the government's), largest first, and selected until 75% of the group's stocks, by number, are covered. If that gives fewer than five stocks, the top five are taken. A group with fewer than five eligible stocks contributes all of them. A stock that leaves the Nifty 500 leaves the index at the next review.
At the 75% cut-off, a stock that is already in the index stays. A new stock at that point enters only if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest stock in its group before the reconstitution.
How it is weighted
Each stock's weight follows its free-float market capitalization, capped at 3% at rebalancing. If the 3% cap cannot be met, it is relaxed by 0.5% at a time until it can. Weights drift with prices between rebalancings.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, every Jun and Dec, using data to the last trading day of Apr and Oct respectively. Weights are rebalanced quarterly, on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec.
If a member is suspended, delisted or goes through a scheme of arrangement, the index is reconstituted and rebalanced outside the schedule and no replacement is added. Each quarter the index is also screened against SEBI's portfolio concentration norms for ETFs and index funds, and weights are adjusted if it fails.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 28 Jun 2024 and a base value of 1000. It launched on 11 Sep 2026 and is calculated at the end of each day. A Total Returns variant also exists.
