About the Nifty500 Multicap Infrastructure 50:30:20
The Nifty500 Multicap Infrastructure 50:30:20 Index tracks 75 large, mid and small cap companies from the Nifty 500 in infrastructure businesses such as construction, power, ports and telecom. Large caps carry a fixed 50% of the weight, mid caps 30% and small caps 20%. It is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
Companies in, or about to join, the Nifty 500 at the time of a review are eligible, if they are ordinary equity shares in one of the basic industries that define the infrastructure theme. Besides those named above, the list includes cement, oil exploration and production, airports, toll and annuity road assets, shipping, hospitals and hotels, and it may change with market conditions.
Eligible companies are split by size: the Nifty 100 is the large cap universe, the Nifty Midcap 150 the mid cap universe and the Nifty Smallcap 250 the small cap universe. Within each, companies are ranked by six-month free-float market capitalization (the market value of the shares available for trading), with preference to stocks in NSE's futures and options segment. The index takes the top 15 large caps, top 25 mid caps and top 35 small caps. If a segment has fewer eligible companies, the index continues with those available.
A company that leaves the Nifty 500 also leaves this index. A futures and options stock that is not a member replaces the smallest member without futures and options in its segment. If every member of a segment already has futures and options, a new one enters only if its free-float market capitalization is at least 1.5 times that of the segment's smallest member.
How it is weighted
Within the fixed segment weights of 50%, 30% and 20%, each stock is weighted by free-float market capitalization. No stock may exceed 10% at the time of rebalancing.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted twice a year, effective from the last trading day of Mar and Sep, using average data for the six months ending 31 Jan and 31 Jul. It is rebalanced quarterly, on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Extra reconstitution happens if a member leaves the Nifty 500 or is suspended or delisted, or undergoes a scheme of arrangement.
Base date and value
The index has a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1,000. It was launched on 6 Mar 2024.
