About the BSE Industrials

BSE Industrials is the BSE index of companies in the BSE AllCap that sit under the Industrials and Diversified macro-economic indicators. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd. and weighted by float-adjusted market cap. It held 348 companies on 30 Sep 2026.

How companies are chosen

BSE Industrials is one of 11 BSE sector indices. Each is a subset of the BSE AllCap, and a company goes to a sector index by its macro-economic indicator under the common India Industry Classification Structure. BSE Industrials is the only one of the 11 that takes two indicators, Industrials and Diversified. Each of the other ten takes a single indicator.

A company must first be in the AllCap. That needs a BSE listing outside the Y, Z, P and INVITS groups, trading frequency of at least 80% and impact cost of 1% or less over the prior six months. Impact cost is the extra a buyer pays or a seller gives up, against the mid price, to trade a set order size. The AllCap aims for at least 1,200 companies at each rebalancing.

How it is weighted

Weights follow float-adjusted market cap, which counts only the shares available to trade. Sector indices add two limits, applied each quarter: no company above 33%, and the top three together no more than 63%. Any excess weight is shared proportionately among the uncapped companies.

When it is reviewed

Sector assignments are set at the annual reconstitution in Sep. A company whose indicator changes in between is moved at the quarterly share update, effective at market open on the Monday after the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, using data to the last trading day of Jan, Apr, Jul and Oct.

Base date and value

BSE Industrials was launched on 15 Apr 2015. Its first value date and base date are both 16 Sep 2005, with a base value of 1,000. Until a rule change effective after the close of 16 Sep 2022, the sector indices followed the BSE Sector Classification System, with 10 sectors. The change moved them to the 11 macro-economic indicators, and BSE Industrials kept its name.
