About the BSE Private Banks Index
The BSE Private Banks Index measures the performance of private Indian banks that meet certain investability requirements. It has a target count of 12 banks and is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the constituents of the BSE Financial Services. Only common stocks in the Banks industry that are not classified as Public Sector Undertakings are eligible.
At each semi-annual rebalancing a stock needs an annualized traded value of at least ₹50 crore and a turnover ratio of at least 10% (₹40 crore and 8% for current constituents), and no more than five non-trading days in the past six months.
Stocks that pass are ranked by average six-month daily float-adjusted market capitalization. The top 10 are selected, then existing constituents ranked 11 to 14 in order of rank until 12 companies are held.
How it is weighted
Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. One company is capped at 33% of the index, and the top three together at 63%.
Investable weight factors define the available float of a company and are reviewed quarterly.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced semiannually, in Mar and Sep.
The index is also checked every quarter for consistency with four SEBI norms.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 27 Aug 2018, with a first value date of 16 Sep 2005.
