About the BSE Realty
The BSE Realty index tracks the real estate companies of the BSE 500, as defined by the BSE industry classification system. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
Only companies in the Residential & Commercial Projects basic industry qualify.
BSE sector indices share one rule: eligible stocks are ranked by average float-adjusted market capitalization until they cover 90% of the sector's total on that measure, and a company must have traded on at least 90% of days in the preceding six months.
A buffer of 2% limits turnover: a non-constituent is included only if it falls within 88% coverage, and an existing constituent is excluded only if it falls above 92% coverage. The index is topped up to at least 10 constituents at each selection.
How it is weighted
Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. The float of each company is set by an investable weight factor, reviewed each quarter and applied each quarter.
When it is reviewed
The index is rebalanced in Jun and Dec each year.
Base date and value
The index was launched on 9 Jul 2007 and its first value date is 2 Jan 2006.
