About the BSE Telecommunication
BSE Telecommunication is a sector index of the companies in the BSE AllCap classified as telecommunication under the common India Industry Classification Structure. It is maintained by BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd.
How companies are chosen
The BSE AllCap is the pool: listed BSE companies after excluding the Y, Z and P groups, InvITs, the SME platform, suspended companies and recent listings, then keeping those that traded on at least 80% of trading days and had an impact cost of 1% or less over six months. Impact cost is the extra price paid to buy or sell at once.
Each Sep the BSE AllCap's companies are assigned to a sector index by their macro-economic indicator, the broad sector group in that classification, and this index takes every company whose indicator is Telecommunication. The rules fix no company count.
If a company's indicator changes between Sep reconstitutions, the change is made at the next quarterly update, effective at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Mar, Jun, Sep or Dec, using data from the last trading day of Jan, Apr, Jul or Oct.
How it is weighted
Companies are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, subject to caps. Float is the part of a company's shares available to trade, set by its Investable Weight Factor (IWF), which is reviewed quarterly. One company may not exceed 33% of the index, and the top three together may not exceed 63%. Any excess weight is shared proportionately among the uncapped stocks. The caps are applied quarterly, on the same dates as the sector changes above.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted annually, effective at market open on the Monday following the third Friday of Sep, using data from the last trading day of Jul. Company size and sector classifications are reviewed then. Quarterly reviews follow in Dec, Mar and Jun. Share count changes under 5% are collected and made quarterly; changes of 5% or more are made as soon as reasonably possible after verification.
Base date and value
The index launched on 15 Apr 2015. Its history starts from its base date, 16 Sep 2005, at a base value of 1000. It is calculated in real time in rupees and US dollars.
