About the Nifty Commercial & Transport Services
The Nifty Commercial & Transport Services index tracks the Commercial & Transport Services sector stocks within the Nifty Total Market index. It held 25 companies on 30 Sep 2026 and is maintained by NSE Indices Limited.
How companies are chosen
The universe is the Nifty Total Market index, as it stands at each review. Every stock in its eligible basic industries, which include airlines, airport and port services, shipping, road transport, logistics, trading and distribution, and outsourcing and other commercial services, is included, with no further ranking or size cut. A stock that is not already a member and is not traded in the futures and options segment is not eligible if it hit its upper or lower price band (the day's limit on price moves) on 20% or more of the trading days in the past six months. The index aims to hold at least 10 stocks; if fewer qualify, the pool widens to the top 1,000 stocks by six-month average daily turnover and full market capitalization, then the top 1,100 and so on.
How it is weighted
Each stock is weighted by its free-float market capitalization, capped at 20%. Nifty Telecommunications, a sibling index under the same rules, caps each stock at 23% and its top three at 62%. Weights are capped each quarter on the last trading day of Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec, and drift with prices in between.
When it is reviewed
The index is reconstituted every six months, in Mar and Sep, on data for the six months ended Jan and Jul. An unscheduled review follows if a member leaves the Nifty Total Market index or is suspended, delisted or goes through a scheme of arrangement. Values are calculated at the end of each day.
Base date and value
The base date is 1 Apr 2005 and the base value is 1000. The index was launched on 15 Jun 2026.
